Germany’s Jannes Fittje explains his debut in the series and talks about his future motorsport plans
How do you look back on your first steps in motorsport? Do you have previous racing roots in your family?
My father contested the Porsche Sports Cup some years ago, so there is passion for racing cars in our family. After he walked away from racing, he bought me a mini kart and I took my first steps in motorsports.
2017 is your maiden season in a Formula 3-based racing series. Talk us through your first impressions of the season?
The F.3 car is absolutely amazing, I really like the high downforce level and immediately felt good driving it. My start of the season was quite good as I achieved a rookie victory and a 4th place overall. But we experienced also some problems which cost us some better places in some races, so there is still a lot to come.
You stepped onto the third step of the rostrum at the Circuit Paul Ricard. Was it your best race memory so far?
Yes, this race was really good as it meant my first podium with a F.3 car. It was one of my best performances but I had still one better race in the past. It was in the ADAC F4 at the Lausitzring last year.
Tell us about the summer break. How is it for a driver? How do you prepare for the second part of the year?
Now the summer break is over, I pushed really hard in our training to be fitter than ever before! But to be honest I was looking forward to driving the F.3 car once again! So I am really happy to be back at Silverstone.
Perhaps your weekend at the Hungaroring was frustrating because you came fifth on Saturday but your second came to an early end on Sunday. What are your goals for the remaining races?
I aim to win at least one race!
What is your ultimate goal in motorsport?
To be a professional racing driver!
